Visa Beta Launch FAQ

Updated January 25, 2020

As of Tuesday 19th January, phase 2 is now in progress. You can add your Visa Virtual cards to Apple or Google Pay. Please check if your country is supported in the article below.

We’re launching Visa debit cards — and you’re one of the lucky customers who will help us test them 🙌🏼

As an existing Wise user, all the current features available for you on our Multi-currency account won’t change.

But we want to make sure that we’ve got things right — we’ve already done thorough testing and now we need your help before we launch this publicly.

By signing up to the beta, you can get an extra Visa debit card to use alongside your Mastercard. At first this will be a Virtual card but you’ll also have the option to add a physical card later. You’ll get a new set of card details to use which will draw from the same balances.

Here are some frequently asked questions — and get in touch if you have any other questions. We’d love to hear from you.

Which countries support Apple Pay?

At the moment, you can add your card to Apple Pay if your address is in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

Which countries support Google Pay?

At the moment, you can add your card to Google Pay if your address is in Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Why is Visa released as part of a beta program?

We want to give the best product to all of our customers. By helping us test these products before general release you can help us make sure we create a reliable, safe and secure product.

Will my Mastercard continue to work?

Yes, the Visa debit cards (physical or virtual) are separate from your Mastercard debit card. There shouldn’t be any issues with your Mastercard transactions.

How many additional Visa cards can I get?

You can add 1 extra virtual and 1 extra physical card.

Can I opt out of the Beta?

Yes — just get in touch with our support team to do this. They’ll help you remove the Visa cards from your account.

Can my friend/family member also join the beta program?

Not right now — but we’ll send more invites in the near future.

Where can I give feedback?

The best way to give us feedback is by replying to the beta invite email. Or you can message our support team.

How is this Visa card different from the Mastercard I already have?

Hopefully there’s no difference. We’re working hard to make sure the experience for both Visa and Mastercard is the same.

What happens after the beta program is complete?

You can continue using your Visa debit cards as usual. If the cards don’t work, we’ll let you know and cancel them for you.

When will phase 3 be rolled out?

This should happen in late February. Don’t worry though —we’ll remind all users who have opted in.

Known issues

We’ll update this section as we progress through the beta program. As a reminder, please update your app from either the Apple or Google store before ordering a virtual card.

  • On the web some users say they can’t see their virtual card’s details. The best thing to do right now is to log out and log back in or use the mobile apps. We’re working on a fix for this.
