Can I use Revolut in Japan?

How does Revolut work in Japan?

Revolut operates in Japan, so there’s a dedicated Revolut Japan website and you can sign up as a new customer there.

The plan structure is pretty similar to the UK, with the following options available:¹

• Standard - no monthly fee
• Premium - ¥980 JPY a month
• Metal - ¥1,980 JPY a month

Using your UK Revolut account in Japan

If you have a Revolut account opened in the UK, will it work in Japan? In short, yes.

You can use your Revolut account to make international transfers, and to spend and withdraw cash on your Revolut debit card while in Japan.

The card supports spending in Japanese yen (JPY).² However, you’ll need to check exchange rates and currency conversion fees carefully. This is particularly important at weekends, when Revolut charges an additional fee to convert currency.³

You should be able to use your Revolut card at anywhere in Japan that accepts Visa or Mastercard. However, it could also be a smart idea to carry some yen in cash with you, just in case.

You’ll also need to stick to the limits and restrictions of your UK Revolut plan. For example, if you’re on a free Standard plan, you’ll only be able to withdraw £200 a month in overseas ATM withdrawals for free. Above this, there’s a 2% fee.³
