Can I use Revolut in Brazil?

Zorica Lončar

If you’re jetting off to Brazil any time soon, you’ll need to find the cheapest and most convenient way to spend. If you’re a customer of money app Revolut, it could be useful to know if it works in Brazil.

The good news is that Revolut does work in Brazil. We’ll run through everything you need to know about it here in this guide, so there will be no surprises during your trip.

We’ll even show you an alternative for low-cost overseas spending - the Wise international debit card.

How does Revolut work in Brazil?

Revolut Brazil launched only very recently, in May 2023.¹

However, at present Brazilian customers can only sign up to a waiting list² - rather than opening an account right away. So, if you’re planning a move to Brazil, you might need to stick with your UK Revolut account for the time being.

Once it fully rolls out though, it’s expected to work in much the same way as in the UK.

You’ll need to sign up for an account and choose a plan. Details of plan prices for Revolut Brazil have not yet been made available, but are expected to be similar to the UK. This means that there is likely to be a free Standard plan, then a handful of paid plans offering extra benefits and features.

Once you’re signed up for an account, you can start sending and requesting money through the Revolut mobile app.

You’ll also get a Revolut debit card, which can be used in Brazil, the UK, the US, Europe and in countries all over the world.

Using your UK Revolut account in Brazil

Now for that all-important question - if you opened your Revolut account in the UK, can you use it in Brazil?

The simple answer to this is yes. If you’re on a trip to Brazil, you’ll be able to use the Revolut app to send and receive money.

Revolut supports transfers in Brazilian Real (BRL),³ so you can send, receive and convert money in this currency.

You’ll also be able to use your Revolut card to spend at Brazilian shops, restaurants, bars, and withdraw cash at ATMs. You should be able to use it anywhere that Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

There is an important thing to bear in mind though. If you’re a UK customer on a free Standard plan, you’ll need to stick to certain limits. For example, you’ll only be able to withdraw £200 a month in overseas ATM withdrawals for free. Above this, there’s a 2% fee, according to Revolut UK pricing.⁴
