There are a number of ways to earn Velocity points and stack them up to redeem rewards. You can¹:

  • Spend money at some of Velocity’s partner brands
  • Transfer existing reward points from eligible partners to Velocity
  • Use Velocity’s ‘Family Pooling’ option to pool the points of up to 6 family members into one account

Following is an overview of Velocity’s partners with whom you can earn points⁸:

The program also has global airline partners that allow you to earn points if you fly with them. Some of the airline partners include Qatar Airways, United Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways, Air Canada, and more.

Shopping

Velocity has an e-store with eligible retailers like Apple, Chemist Warehouse, David Jones, The Good Guys, and more. If you visit a retailer’s website via the e-store, Velocity will track your purchase and allocate your points.

Shopping from brands like Snooze, Freedom Kitchens and Wardrobes, and Myer can also help you earn points. If you’re registered with Flybuys, you can transfer your Flybuys points to Velocity.

Everyday expenses

You can earn points with fuel, food and other purchases at 7-Eleven, and with eligible car rentals from Flexicar.

Holiday and travel

If you choose to stay at a Velocity partner hotel, add your Velocity membership number during the booking process to earn points. Booking your holiday and travel with brands like Luxury Escapes, G’day Parks, Cruisepilot, Experience Oz, Hertz, Europcar, and others, can also earn you Velocity points.

Cards, banking and insurance

You can earn Velocity points by either using eligible cards for purchases or by transferring your existing card reward points to Velocity points. Some of the participating companies are American Express, ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, NAB, HSBC, Westpac, and more. You can also earn points if you buy insurance from Medibank and Cover More.

How many points are needed for a free flight

The number of Velocity points required for a free flight is based on the miles you’ll fly. You can redeem your Velocity points for a free domestic flight in economy across Virgin Australia network starting at 6,200 Velocity points. Free international flights in economy start at 7,800 Velocity points.

Free flights can be booked by selecting ‘Reward Seat’ fare when redeeming your points. If a Reward Seat isn’t available, Velocity provides the option of ‘Any Seat’ which requires more points than a Reward Seat.⁵

Where else can you spend Velocity points

Along with using your Velocity points for a free flight, Velocity Frequent Flyer offers other avenues where you can spend the points⁶:

  • Reduce the price of your flight.
  • Upgrade your flight on eligible Virgin Australia flights.
  • Spend your points at Velocity’s online rewards store where you can shop for a variety of products from categories such as gift cards, electronics, fashion, home and garden, and more.
  • Shop for wine and spirits at the Velocity Wine Store online.
  • Redeem your points when shopping at Myer.
  • Book hotels, resorts, tours, cruises and more, or reduce the price of these bookings.
  • Hire a car.

Do you lose Velocity points if you don't use them?

Velocity points only expire if there hasn’t been any activity in an account for 24 months. If you continue earning and redeeming Velocity points, you won’t be at risk of losing them. Even a transaction of a single point will keep your account active. You won’t be able to access your points once they expire.¹

Keep in mind

  • Velocity points might not get added to your account right away. Depending on the partner, it might take up to 14 days for your points to appear.⁷
  • Along with earning the required number of Status Credits, you need to fly the minimum Eligible Sectors within your review year to maintain or upgrade your Velocity membership level. Eligible Sector is any flight beginning with a VA flight number.³
