A study of Germans living in the U.S.

Wise

Did you know that there are 582,782 people living in the US who were born in Germany?

We thought that was interesting so we did some research to find out as much as we could about German expats here in the US. We think we found some pretty interesting stuff.

It's no surprise that New York is home to the most Germans, but thanks to it's Air Force heritage, you are more likely to run into a German in Lawton, Oklahoma than anywhere else in the country. 1 in 70 people you encounter were born in Germany.

Pulling in data from over 300,000 social media profiles, we were able to determine just what interests Germans living the US. And these Germans are going local.

They prefer Walmart to Aldi, SourPatch Kids to Haribo and Budweiser to Paulaner. Perhaps most surprisingly they prefer Donald Trump to Angela, albeit perhaps for entertainment value as much as anything else. President Obama is 4x as popular as Mr. Trump, however, and Frau Merkel is holding off Hillary.

Where Germans do stay true to their home country is, unsurprisingly, on the car front. BMW beats Ford. Says it all really.
