A study of Europeans living in Chicago

Wise

###According to the U.S. Census there are over 80,000 European expats living in Chicago.

We did some research to find out as much as we could about Europeans now living in The Windy City.

Surprisingly, we found that Polish expats are the largest group of Europeans to call Chicago their new home. A staggering 40,000 of them currently reside in Chicago. Compare that second largest group of Europeans, Romanians, there is only 8,100 of them living here. Brits come in third at 7,500, Italians in fourth (5,900), the French in fifth (4,900), Germans in sixth (4,600), and finally Irish and Spanish expats tie in seventh place, both with 3,200 of them in Chicago.

Aggregating anonymous social media data from the thousands of Europeans living in Chicago, we were able to determine the most followed and liked politicians, Chicagoans, local sports teams and hotspots. All in terms of social media popularity.

####Trump is six times more popular than Hillary.

The Europeans give the 55th Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, 4,880 likes in social media. Perhaps more for the entertaining value than anything else, the controversial Republican Party nominee, Donald Trump, has a shockingly high amount of likes from Europeans who live in Chicago. Trump proves to be more popular than Mayor Emanuel by 1,140 likes and comes out to be six times more popular than the Democratic Party nominee, Hillary Clinton, who receives just over 1,000 likes from the Europeans.

####The Cubs or the White Sox?

When it comes to sports, Europeans' favorite local team is none other than the Chicago Bulls. Collectively, they give the six time NBA Champions over 14,000 likes in social media. And just who is their favorite local baseball team? Well, the Chicago Cubs come out ahead of the White Sox but just by 1,910 likes.

####But it's all about sports and politics, what about local news and their favorite hotspots? Take a look below to see just what else we found.
