Who can renew a passport online in Singapore?

The easiest way to make an ICA passport application is by submitting your application online and collecting your new passport in person at the ICA office or select local Post Offices. Not everyone can apply for a Singaporean passport online, but there’s also a postal application option for anyone who can’t, or if you’d prefer to make a paper application.

You’re eligible to apply for a first Singapore passport or for the renewal of a Singapore passport if you live in Singapore and meet any of these eligibility criteria:

• It’s your first time applying for a passport
• Your passport is running out of pages
• Your passport is expired or will expire in 9 months or less
• Your passport was lost or damages

Passports issued to Singapore citizens aged 16 or above last for 10 years, while passports for younger applicants last for 5 years.

How to renew Singapore passport - step by step

Renewing your passport online should be a pretty straightforward process, and there’s lots of information on the ICA website if you need further support.

Here’s how to apply for a Singapore passport step by step¹:

1. Check you’re eligible for an online application
2. Gather the documents needed
3. Log into the online MyICA service and sign in or create an account
4. Complete the digital application
5. Upload the required documents
6. Pay the fee based on the reason for application
7. You’ll be notified by email, post or SMS when your passport is ready
8. Collect your passport at the ICA office or a post office

Documents needed for ICA online passport application

The only document usually needed for a passport renewal online is a digital, passport sized photo that complies with the ICA photo guidelines. You’ll need to complete an online application form as well, but you’re guided through this onscreen.

Additional documents may be needed for first time applicants or based on your circumstances. If you’re applying for a new passport for a child, for example, you’ll need the child’s birth certificate handy.

Applying for a Singapore passport from overseas

All the passport application options we have looked at so far are only available for people who live in Singapore. If you’re a Singapore citizen living abroad you can either complete the application form in hard copy and submit to a Singapore Overseas Mission wherever you live, or apply using MyICA and your Singpass for convenience.

Singapore passport application fees

As you’d expect, there’s a few to pay to get a new passport. So - how much to renew a passport in Singapore?

• Online applications - 70 SGD¹
• In person applications made overseas - 80 SGD in the foreign currency based on location

Online applications for babies aged under 1 year old are free.

There’s also a fee to pay if your passport has been lost or damaged:

• 50 SGD for the first replacement
• 100 SGD for subsequent replacements

If you apply online you can pay by Visa or MasterCard debit or credit card, Amex, PayNow or direct deposit from eligible Singapore banks.

Postal applications can only be paid for by card.

Singapore passport renewal and application processing time

The next obvious question is: how long does it take to renew a passport in Singapore?

Local applications should take just 2 weeks. Applications for a Singapore passport made overseas can take 4 to 6 weeks.

There’s no way to expedite passport renewal in Singapore, so make sure your photos comply to guidelines for the fastest available delivery time. If you’ll still struggle with a 2 week turn around, contact ICA directly to ask for support.

Collecting a new Singapore passport

Once you’re notified it’s ready, you’ll need to collect your Singapore passport³.

You can pick up your new passport at the ICA building, at select Singapore post offices or at the Overseas Mission where you applied. You’ll need to make an appointment to collect direct from the ICA. If you’d prefer to get your passport at a post office you can confirm this at the point of application, and you’ll have a 4 day window to collect it once it’s ready.

You’ll need to take along your current passport if available, and your NRIC. If you’re collecting a passport for your child you’ll also need their birth certificate.
