We’re making a positive, irreversible change in the world of finance. Together.

APAC Press Officer – Singapore

TransferWise is the best way to move money around the world.

Since 2011, we’ve had a clear mission: money without borders. We want money to move around the world instantly, for free, transparently, and as easily as possible.

Whether you’re sending money to another country, spending money abroad, or making and receiving international business payments, TransferWise is on a mission to make your life easier and save you money.

More than 5 million people and businesses have stopped using banks, paypal and traditional providers, because TransferWise is cheaper, faster and easier. Huge companies and banks use TransferWise technology too; an entirely new cross-border payment network that will one day power money without borders for everyone, everywhere.

We’re just at the beginning of our story and we’re growing at an incredible pace. We won’t stop until anyone, anywhere can send, spend and receive money wherever they are, whatever they’re doing. There’s still plenty to do and we can’t do it alone.

There are over 1,500 employees from more than 80 countries working for TransferWise across our twelve offices. It’s a global community. Come and join the fun.

What it’s really like to work here?

At TransferWise, we do things a bit differently. There’s no corporate nonsense and no old-fashioned hierarchy. Instead, we work in self-sufficient, autonomous teams. You will get tons of guidance and support from talented, super-smart colleagues from all over TransferWise. You’ll experience high levels of ownership and empowerment within your role.

It goes without saying that you’ll be a part of a fun, friendly atmosphere, with plenty of opportunities to grow personally and professionally.

You’ll get a competitive salary, flexible work hours and an all-expenses-paid company holiday every year (Summerdays). Everyone gets shares in the company too, because we believe that the revolution belongs to each of us.

About the job

We’re looking for a driven Press Officer to join our APAC team in Singapore providing support to our Australia/NZ and Asia PR teams.

We’re a fast growing company, so no two days will be the same. Your projects will range from announcing the latest product with a bang, to creating killer consumer campaigns that get people talking, to helping build grassroots campaigns for more transparency in finance. Our brand is bold and your approach to PR should be too.

We are a global PR team with people on almost every continent. You’ll be splitting your time working on campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and Malaysia. A fantastic opportunity for the right person.

This role will give you the opportunity to work across:

  • Media relations: Building a super strong network of contacts and staying on the pulse of the trends to proactively keep TransferWise and our spokespeople in the news. Handling media requests and helping prepare spokespeople is a big part of your day to day.
  • Events: Helping TransferWise spokespeople represent the company at the right industry events and ensure they are prepared to the highest level.
  • Creative Campaigns: Supporting on our creative awareness-driving campaigns in multiple markets. Help commission research, help pick the right “newsworthy” ideas, and bring your own ideas to life too
  • Thought leadership: Building the profiles of key spokespeople through speaking opportunities, power lists, byline submissions, and proactive pitches.
  • Corporate communications: Help build the profiles of key spokespeople through speaking opportunities, power lists, byline submissions, and proactive pitches. Ensure product launches are well covered.

 A bit about you:

  • You’re truly passionate about the TransferWise mission.
  • Your writing is clear, concise and rarely needs more than one round of edits.
  • You have strong experience working in a PR role at a tech firm or in an agency.
  • You have relevant experience in media relations that you can demonstrate, and ideally existing contacts of relevant journalists. You’re a natural hustler when it comes to building new contacts.
  • You live for the rush of nailing a hard-earned story and aren’t easily dismayed when a pitch doesn’t land the first time. As a result, you have many stories of successful (and failed!) campaigns which you’ve been part of.
  • You’re a technophile - you’re all over the latest apps and trends and you are the one explaining to your friends how things work.
  • You’re digital without question - you love and understand the power of traditional media but you understand how word spreads online and how to get the internet talking.
  • You’re wildly creative, with a natural super-sense for what makes a compelling story.
  • You’re willing to get your hands dirty and go through walls to make things happen.
  • You can demonstrate how you mine data to tell compelling stories in the media.
  • You understand that news moves quickly and you flourish in a fast-paced environment.
  • As such, you’re organised and your attention to detail is second to none.
  • You’re self-sufficient and can demonstrate how you work independently and with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Additional Asian language(s) (particularly Chinese, Malay, or Japanese) will be viewed favourably.
  • You have a naturally global mindset and are open to travel. We’re a global team, so you should feel comfortable spending time travelling and working out of our Australian office at least once a quarter.

Some important stuff we would like you to know

To meet our regulatory obligations as a licensed financial services company, TransferWise needs to take background checks on all new hires, which may include Criminal and Credit checks. Please discuss with the Recruiter if you have any concerns regarding this process.

At TransferWise we believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Therefore, we want to make sure that our recruitment process is accessible to everyone. So if you need any reasonable adjustments – at any point in the process – we’ll do our best to help. Just let us know what you need on your application form or reply with your request to the email we send you after you have applied. You might need a reasonable adjustment if you’ve got a disability. Or maybe you live overseas, and you’d prefer to meet us over Skype.

Please don’t send anything to the adjustments address if you’re a recruiter, or if you’re making a speculative application. We do work with recruiters from time to time – but only through LinkedIn. And we only accept job applications when a position is actually open. So you’re better off just checking the recruitment pages regularly.
