North America PR Lead – New York, United States

We’re looking for a driven PR professional to join our Americas team in New York City and help us expand our brand awareness with media, stakeholders, and consumers. 


A bit about the job:

We’re a fast growing company, so no two days will be the same. Your projects will range from announcing the latest product with a bang, to creating killer consumer campaigns that get people talking, or campaigning to change financial regulations.

We are a global PR team with people on almost every continent. In New York, the tight-knit marketing team provides ample support as needed. A fantastic opportunity for the right person.

This role will give you the opportunity to work across:

  • Media relations: Building and maintaining a super strong network of contacts and staying on the pulse of the trends to proactively keep TransferWise and our spokespeople in the news.
  • Developing campaigns: Devising & executing creative awareness-driving campaigns is in your blood. You’ll have a lot of freedom to bring your own ideas to life, the support of our existing PR agency, and the opportunity to find and appoint additional resources to make this happen.
  • Corporate communications: Help localise the global corporate communications strategy for the Americas, and work closely with founders and leadership team to deliver the TransferWise story in the region.
  • Thought leadership: Building the profiles of key spokespeople through speaking opportunities, byline submissions, and proactive pitches.
  • Leadership: Build and lead a local comms team to make TransferWise one of the best known fintech brands in the US
  • Spokesperson duties: Being the face of TransferWise in North American media as needed
  • Travel: We’re a global team, so you must be open to domestic and international travel. This will be ~10-20% of your time, with a strong focus in the first couple months.


About You

  • Strong, demonstrable experience of working in tech PR. This could be in-house at a startup or tech company or in an agency. 
  • Experience working on integrated campaigns that demonstrate you understand how PR, marketing, and social media can work side by side to reach consumers and media.
  • Innate understanding of what makes a good story for media and how to secure great quality media coverage - along with existing media relationships. You’re a natural hustler when it comes to building new contacts.
  • You can be self-sufficient and proactive as the role demands it. 
  • You have a hands-on approach and can get results whether you’re in a regional team or a functional PR team. We get things done.
  • You’re truly passionate about the TransferWise mission, you are excited about developing and communicating great ideas to make financial services fairer, and you have a naturally global mindset.
  • Your writing is clear, concise and rarely needs more than one round of edits.
  • You live for the rush of nailing a hard-earned story and aren’t easily dismayed when a pitch doesn’t land the first time.
  • You have endless stories of successful (and failed!) campaigns which you’ve led.
  • You’re a technophile - you’re all over the latest apps and trends and you were the one explaining to your friends how bitcoin works.
  • You’re digital without question - you love and understand the power of traditional media but you understand how word spreads online and how to get the internet talking.
  • You’re wildly creative, with a natural super-sense for what makes a compelling story.
  • You’re willing to get your hands dirty and go through walls to make things happen.
  • You understand how to mine data to tell compelling stories.
  • You understand that news moves quickly and you flourish in a fast-paced environment. As such, you’re organised and your attention to detail is second to none.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Additional languages (particularly Spanish and Portuguese) will be viewed favourably.
