We’re making a positive, irreversible change in the world of finance. Together.

PR Manager – New York, United States

A bit about TransferWise:

TransferWise is the best way to move money internationally, with a mission to make the world’s financial systems fairer.

Since 2011, we’ve had a clear mission: money without borders. Built by and for people who live global lives, we’re the fairest, easiest way to manage your money across borders.

We’re just at the beginning of our story and we’re growing at an incredible pace. We won’t stop until anyone, anywhere can send, spend and receive money wherever they are, whatever they’re doing. There’s still heaps to do and we can’t do it alone.

Cofounded by Skype’s first employee and backed by some of the most experienced entrepreneurs, including Sir Richard Branson and the founders of PayPal, TransferWise is rebuilding how money moves and slashing the cost in the process. Over 4 million people and businesses use TransferWise to send more than $4 billion every month, saving $1 billion a year in the process.

There are over 1,500 employees from more than 80 countries working for TransferWise across our twelve offices. It’s a global community. Come and join the fun.

Your mission:

We’re looking for a driven PR Manager to join our US team in New York City, reporting into the Head of PR for the Americas.

We’re a fast growing company, so no two days will be the same. Your projects will range from announcing the latest product with a bang, to creating killer consumer campaigns that get people talking, or campaigning to change the law. Our brand is bold and so your approach to PR should be too.

We are a global PR team with people on almost every continent. In New York, the tight-knit marketing team provides ample support as needed. A fantastic opportunity for the right person.

This role will give you the opportunity to work across:

  • Media relations: Building a super strong network of contacts and staying on the pulse of the trends to proactively keep TransferWise and our spokespeople in the news.
  • Running campaigns: Devising & executing creative awareness-driving campaigns. You’ll have a lot of freedom to bring your own ideas to life, the support of our existing PR agency, and the opportunity to find and appoint additional resources to make this happen.
  • Thought leadership: Building the profiles of key spokespeople through speaking opportunities, power lists, byline submissions, and proactive pitches.
  • Corporate communications: Support the global strategic corporate communications strategy as needed.
  • Travel: We’re a global team, so you must be open to domestic and international travel.

A bit about you:

  • You’re truly passionate about the TransferWise mission.
  • You’re fascinated by different cultures and have a naturally global mindset.
  • Your writing is clear, concise and rarely needs more than one round of edits.
  • You have strong experience working in a PR role at a consumer tech firm, or in an agency where you’ve led accounts and been instrumental in the client’s success.
  • You have an existing contacts book of relevant journalists and you’re a natural hustler when it comes to building new contacts.
  • You live for the rush of nailing a hard-earned story and aren’t easily dismayed when a pitch doesn’t land the first time.
  • You have endless stories of successful (and failed!) campaigns which you’ve led.
  • You’re a technophile - you’re all over the latest apps and trends and you were the one explaining to your friends how bitcoin works.
  • You’re digital without question - you love and understand the power of traditional media but you understand how word spreads online and how to get the internet talking.
  • You’re wildly creative, with a natural super-sense for what makes a compelling story.
  • You’re willing to get your hands dirty and go through walls to make things happen.
  • You understand how to mine data to tell compelling stories.
  • You understand that news moves quickly and you flourish in a fast-paced environment. As such, you’re organised and your attention to detail is second to none.

Our People:

At TransferWise, you’ll be joining a movement of people who believe in a better, fairer, more transparent way of moving money around the world. You’ll collaborate to do your best work and take on problems that no one has looked at before.

If you’re keen to learn, grow, try new things and aren’t afraid of a bold plan, you’ll fit right in.

How we work:

At TransferWise our strategy emerges from the collective brainpower of all our people, who are organised in dozens of independent, autonomous teams. Teams stay closest to our customers, so they choose what problems to solve and where to spend the most time.

You’ll experience radical levels of ownership and empowerment within your role. Plus the opportunity to see the direct impact of your work on our customers.

Some important stuff we would like you to know

To meet our regulatory obligations as a licensed financial services company, TransferWise needs to take background checks on all new hires, which may include Criminal and Credit checks. Please discuss with the Recruiter if you have any concerns regarding this process.

At TransferWise we believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Therefore, we want to make sure that our recruitment process is accessible to everyone. So if you need any reasonable adjustments – at any point in the process – we’ll do our best to help. Just let us know what you need on your application form or reply with your request to the email we send you after you have applied. You might need a reasonable adjustment if you’ve got a disability. Or maybe you live overseas, and you’d prefer to meet us over Skype.

Please don’t send anything to the adjustments address if you’re a recruiter, or if you’re making a speculative application. We do work with recruiters from time to time – but only through LinkedIn. And we only accept job applications when a position is actually open. So you’re better off just checking the recruitment pages regularly.
