Backend Engineer - Business Team

We’re looking for a backend engineer to join our growing team in Budapest. The role is a unique opportunity to work in our Global Payouts engineering team to help millions more potential business customers save money by using TransferWise.

Your mission:

  • Scaling TransferWise to perform payouts for increasingly large businesses
  • Moving money around the world should be instant, convenient, transparent and eventually free.
  • Combining product vision while building a stable, secure, and scalable platform

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Work on large mission-critical products; such as batch payments, accounting/reporting, and helping to build user access controls for large businesses.
  • Choose your own path to success - you’ll have the freedom to define the vision and the responsibility for making it happen
  • Be flexible in how and where you work, we understand everyone needs a little something different so we’ll do our best to make it happen
  • Regular travel to work with our teams in London as well as meet various partners and organisations when needed
  • Inspire teams with your ideas, knowledge and self-starting attitude

A bit about you:

  • You’re passionate about product and user experience - customers are at the heart of what you do and that empathy drives your decisions
  • Solid knowledge of Java 8 and preferably some experience with Spring Boot
  • Experience with Web development and concepts such as MVC, REST and
  • Experience with SQL databases, writing custom queries and designing schemas
  • Some experience with front-end development, such as AngularJS and React, is beneficial but not essential
  • Understanding of horizontal scaling and experience with relevant technologies
  • Understanding of test coverage best practices
