Financial Controller – Tallinn

TransferWise are looking for a Financial Controller to join our largest office in Tallinn, Estonia. Financial Controllers, jointly with our Regional Controllers, own the financial oversight of the TransferWise entities and assist managing the relationships with financial outsourcers and regulators in numerous countries. This role is fundamental to our mission of Money Without Borders and is pivotal to maintaining close control of the financials and to ensuring positive relationships with outsourcers and regulators. Your mission:

  • Help pilot the rocket ship. Financial control capabilities are essential to steer the ship in the right direction, comply with financial, regulatory and tax requirements in all our jurisdictions around the world.
  • Cover numerous jurisdictions and interact with all areas of the business to ensure finance are aware of material country and product changes that impact our financial reporting.
  • Work with Regional Controllers, Chief Accountant and the Tax team to build compliant reports to submit to financial and regulatory authorities.
  • Regularly work with outsourcers and external auditors based in overseas jurisdictions, ensuring our local reporting is accurate, timely and appropriately reviewed before submitted.
  • Work with other finance teams, especially Finance Product team to create accurate reporting automatically from the source systems as per regulatory requirements.
  • Take financial control ownership of a TransferWise overseas entity or small region on behalf of the Group Financial Controller or Regional Controller.
  • International long distance travel approximately once per quarter and some other travel as required.

A bit about you:

  • Prior experience in either financial controlling, financial audit, financial advisory or management accounting.
  • Built financial reports / models for businesses like ours (ideally in the payments space but not critical).
  • Dealt with internal or external stakeholders (preferably regulators) on a regular basis, communicating reports, requirements etc.
  • Have an ability to move beyond Excel and dig into raw data.
  • Get finance and accounting terminology and have ability to understand importance of tax and regulatory rules and frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles. Knowledge of IFRS is needed, US GAAP would be an advantage.
  • Keen to roll up sleeves and get the job done (we all do our own Excel still).
  • Humble, comfortable operating with a high level of uncertainty, can act independently, be decisive and take responsibility.
  • Open to self-development, willing to gain experience, improve your skills and keen to learn new tricks.
  • Detail oriented, with ability to deliver complex reporting and detailed jobs accurately and on time.
  • Love to work with multiple teams within and outside of finance as well as internationally on projects or ad hoc requests as required, with flexibility and a can do attitude.
