We’re making a positive, irreversible change in the world of finance. Together.

Tax Manager – London

This is an opportunity for a part/newly qualified or existing in-house corporate/mixed tax professional to join one of the UK’s fastest growing and most successful startups.

You’ll be part of a commercially-minded Tax team in Finance, helping to ensure our tax affairs are efficient, transparently compliant and slick so that our mission is sustainable. In this newly created global role, we are looking for an intelligent problem solver who is comfortable with both complex data and tax principles.

However, the problems might involve taxes in countries you have never dealt with, there are no manuals telling you how to do it and getting meaningful data might not be straight forward. If this still excites you, read on.

The following should give you a flavour of what is to come but, given the pace of change, this is going to be very fluid in reality and could change quite a bit.

Your mission:

  • Take the lead on the outsourced preparation of all corporation tax computations globally (e.g. UK, US, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Brazil, Malaysia, HK, Japan), with a view of bringing the UK comp in-house over time.
  • Ownership of IFRS year end tax reporting and tax provisions for all local stat accounts with the help of advisors where necessary - you must therefore be a wizard on excel.
  • Manage outsourced capital allowance reviews globally (e.g. work with office team for plans), R&D claims (e.g. facilitate technical interviews with advisors and engineers) and identify further opportunities for other claims and incentives.
  • Ad hoc support and projects with other members of the tax team (e.g. residency certificates, treaty analysis, FATCA/CRS forms, budgeting, transparency initiatives).
  • Work closely with the controllers, accounting and finance product team for sources of data and information, including directly extracting info from our ERP system.
  • Support the International Tax Manager and Head of Tax.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Build on and develop technical knowledge and experience of different taxes across multiple jurisdictions in a truly global role
  • Work autonomously to deliver impact by owning tax compliance and being in control of tax-sensitive data in an environment where fast paced change is the norm
  • Travel to Tallinn from time to time to work alongside the rest of the talented finance team

A bit about you:

  • Comfortable with diving into complex systems, processes and data
  • Solid understanding of UK corporation tax and practical experience of IFRS reporting
  • Motivated team player with enthusiasm to learn and optimism in the face of seemingly impossible challenges
  • A flair for solving problems and be excited at the prospect of working on challenges outside of your usual comfort zone with minimal guidance
  • Humble, comfortable operating with a level of uncertainty, and keen to learn new tricks

Some extras that would be awesome:

  • ACA, CTA, ACCA, ATT or equivalent
  • In-house experience

What’s in it for you?

You’ll be part of a newly created tax team within finance that’s helping to ensure our mission to help customers is sustainable. You’ll also be on the receiving end of some truly excellent benefits, including Vitality Healthcare, Aviva pension scheme, subsidised gym membership and a whole lot of free food.

Some important stuff we would like you to know

To meet our regulatory obligations as a licensed financial services company, TransferWise needs to take background checks on all new hires, which may include Criminal and Credit checks. Please discuss with the Recruiter if you have any concerns regarding this process.

At TransferWise we believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Therefore, we want to make sure that our recruitment process is accessible to everyone.
