SEO Specialist (Content & News) – Tallinn

A bit about the job

We're looking for an SEO specialist to take ownership of our blog & news product. This position would suit somebody with a strong understanding of SEO with experience in publishing.

SEO at TransferWise isn’t about sticking keywords on a webpage or building artificial links, but making sure we offer the best possible products, content and on-site experiences to our customers. At TransferWise we’re on a mission to empower our users to make smart financial decisions based on transparent information. Our SEO team is no different. There is no point in working in search unless you understand how what you’re building is providing value to our customers.

So while we need someone who ‘gets’ SEO, we also need someone who can get to the heart of how we help our customers and change the world for the better. If that’s you, read on.

What will you get to do?

  • Develop the technical SEO specifications for our content management platforms, including AMP, internal site structure, and Google News.
  • Plan an editorial calendar, informed by keyword research and a strong interest in financial and business news.
  • Manage and improve the content production workflow. This can mean writing briefs and carrying out research, but also constantly finding ways to optimise and improve our process. You’ll produce guidelines for our writers as well.
  • You’ll get great flexibility and freedom to plan and develop engaging content, with a focus on user experience as well as search demand.
  • Manage a team of writers, proofreaders, and editors, as you help us scale our content production and bring high-quality news results to our users.
  • Provide training and support to our local content teams, which could also mean...
  • Travel to our offices around the world

About you…

  • You’ll have demonstrable experience in SEO in news and publishing. You’ll have a good knowledge of how Google treats news content. You’ll be familiar with Googlebot-News, news sitemaps, AMP, and carousel results, and you should be comfortable making recommendations and giving guidance to others on this area.
  • You’ll have good project management skills and can plan and coordinate for a small team of writers and proofreaders. You can set realistic deadlines, monitor your progress, and adapt quickly when circumstances change.
  • You’re very comfortable with keyword research, and can use the process to discover new content topics and optimise and rearrange existing articles.
  • You should have an understanding of structured data, especially for news optimisation.
  • You’re confident using the most popular SEO tools: webmaster consoles, keyword research, and tracking tools.
  • You’re comfortable drawing on sources such as Google Analytics and Mixpanel to inform your decisions, improve our content, and improve user engagement.
  • You can explain technical or complicated concepts to others, in a way that’s clear and easy to understand.
  • Knowledge of foreign languages is highly beneficial.
  • Ideally, you’ll already have an interest in financial and business news.
  • Lastly but most importantly: passion for TransferWise mission and drive to provide our customers the best possible search experience.

Note: You will be working together with Content Specialists, this role requires a strong understanding of content but differently from the Content Specialist role also requires solid technical SEO experience in order to inform publishing platforms development.

Who we are

TransferWise was founded in 2011 with a clear mission: Money without borders - so people and businesses can send, spend and get paid in any currency, whenever, wherever.

Sure, the heart of what we do is international money transfer. And we’re committed to making it instant, convenient and fair for millions of people, all over the world. But we’re growing our other products and our teams at an exciting pace. And we’re looking for the very best to jump on board.

What it’s really like to work here

At TransferWise, we do things a bit differently. There’s no corporate nonsense, and no old-fashioned hierarchy. Instead, we work in dozens of self-sufficient, autonomous teams. Think of them like start-ups within a start-up.

Each team picks the problems they want to solve. So there’s no micro-management. No hiding behind fancy job titles. And no one telling you what to do. You are your own boss. But you’ll get tons of guidance and plenty of support from your talented, super-smart teammates.

We’re going to be upfront — the way we work doesn’t suit everyone. But if freedom, autonomy, and life-affirming, head-scratching professional challenges rock your world, we could be a match made in heaven.

Some important stuff we would like you to know

To meet our regulatory obligations as a licensed financial services company, TransferWise needs to take background checks on all new hires, which may include Criminal and Credit checks. Please discuss with the Recruiter if you have any concerns regarding this process.

At TransferWise we believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Therefore, we want to make sure that our recruitment process is accessible to everyone. So if you need any reasonable adjustments – at any point in the process – we’ll do our best to help. Just let us know what you need on your application form, or drop us an email at adjustments@transferwise.com. You might need a reasonable adjustment if you’ve got a disability. Or maybe you live overseas, and you’d prefer to meet us over Skype.

Please don’t send anything to the adjustments address if you’re a recruiter, or if you’re making a speculative application. We do work with recruiters from time to time – but only through LinkedIn. And we only accept job applications when a position is actually open. So you’re better off just checking the recruitment pages regularly.
