        Marketing

        • Head of Growth / GM - US East

A fantastic opportunity for a senior, entrepreneurial marketer to join a well-funded VC-backed business that is growing exponentially from its European base. They will take a lead role in driving geographic expansion and significantly scaling the business in the US. Focusing initially on New York, the role will in due course take on a wider geographic remit and oversee further regional managers in new locales, ultimately running a large proportion of the US business, and potentially new international markets in future.

This individual will own the growth of TransferWise in their geography. They will own all key growth metrics for the market, including market fit, revenue growth, customer base growth, retention and ROI. It is a role for a superstar marketer. Equal parts creative and commercial. Someone who does not play by the norms and strives for fame in their work.

They will be responsible for kicking off growth activities in a hands-on manner, whilst recruiting a local team, developing and scaling it in line with business demands. The individual will be a highly motivating leader, able to attract, develop and retain first-class talent and build a positive and collaborative team-based environment. They need to bring experience of how to create a coherent structure, define individual roles and set a clear direction.   Furthermore, they will be responsible for establishing the TransferWise culture and being its custodian within local teams to ensure consistency and alignment with the HQ. They will establish a performance-based, meritocratic and entrepreneurial culture.

But be clear – this is not a pure people management role. We are a get-it-done organization and everyone is expected to roll up their sleeves and work on whatever is required to move their KPIs. This role will launch growth activities, and hire specialists to run the day-to-day once a marketing channel is proven. Hence the requirement for strong marketing backgrounds and a growth mindset. So, while the role will mature into a broader general management role, there is a particular emphasis on owning and driving the marketing strategy and execution for the region. They will control all local growth decisions spanning Advertising, PR, Partnerships, Community, CRM, Product fit, Online Performance Marketing (working with central specialists) and Guerilla tactics – also customer targeting strategy and localization of the proposition. They will leverage their strong understanding of each local market to be able to drive innovative strategies to engage local customers and partners. They will be seen as a credible and informed spokesperson for the region, regularly engaging the media and other external stakeholders in order to raise TransferWise’s profile in that market.

They will need to be creative, agile and resourceful in finding solutions to new problems and be able to create a coherent and scalable operating structure for local markets that can be replicated.

          Responsibilities:

          • Own the growth of TransferWise in terms of customer base and revenue, delivering against key operating metrics within an agreed profitability framework.
          • Devise and execute the local strategy for Advertising, Partnerships, Community, PR and all other marketing channels.
          • Execute the parts of the playbook that have already been proven to drive growth.
          • Recruit and develop a local growth team, build and foster a strong culture
          • Be a brand ambassador and act as a spokesperson for the market
          • Collaborate with and influence central marketing teams (e.g. Performance marketing) to hit your KPIs.
          • Provide local market feedback to improve product-market fit.
          • Create an effective blueprint for local market operations and share best practices within the organisation
          • Make new market entry decisions and launch new cities in due course.

          Who are you?

A high calibre, entrepreneurial, highly-motivated individual with world-class marketing capabilities. The right candidate will bring knowledge of the local market in order to rapidly establish a customer base, partner network and strong brand profile. They are likely a seasoned consumer marketer, or already operating as GM but with a strong background in consumer marketing.

MARKETING EXPERTISE – will bring strong capabilities in brand marketing, PR, business development, online and offline advertising, social media marketing, strategic partnerships and community programmes. Will be both growth-focused and customer-oriented. Brilliantly creative, but fundamentally commercially.

LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE - Will have experience as a Marketing leader, having successfully grown a consumer-facing online business or app. Sector expertise is not a must, but this relevant consumer marketing track record is – the candidate we are looking for is a proven executer, not a future prospect. They will have addressed cross-functional issues and understand how to holistically run a high performance growth team. They will bring an understanding of how to develop strategies and processes to drive and support significant growth. They will be an inspiring leader who communicates well and has gravitas and credibility.

ENTREPRENEURIAL AND RESULTS FOCUSED – Will have experience of working in a fast-paced, scrappy, resource constrained environment and of finding creative solutions. Will bring a ‘hustler’ style mentality and be highly results oriented. They get things done against they odds.

STRATEGY AND EXECUTION – a highly strategic, analytical, structured thinker and problem-solver who is able to set a clear vision and plan, whilst also being a pragmatic, hands-on operator

NETWORK – Strong network of potential hires to aid fast team growth, and relevant partners/agencies to aid fast business growth.

CULTURE FIT – Highly collaborative; team-oriented; respectful; high integrity; able to deal with ambiguity and a fast paced constantly changing environment; passionate about TransferWise’s mission and values; customer-centric; strong work ethic; flexible; dynamic; sense of humour and high energy.

          Benefits:

          • Competitive salary and benefits package
          • Company stock options
          • All-expenses-paid company holidays in Europe

        • Marketing Manager (Community, Evangelism & Creative) – US East

We are looking for an experienced, super-creative marketing professional to be one of the very first employees in our NYC office. Working to grow the TransferWise revolution in the US, you’ll be highly empowered to tell stories, use your superior creative skills to rally the community, and drive our growth.

          Role overview:

The role it pretty simple on the face of it – give TransferWise customers more and more reasons to talk to their friends about TransferWise. Word of mouth is huge part of our growth, and you'll be fuelling an ever-spreading fire.

Initially focusing on New York, the scope will quickly expand, geographically and in terms of customer segments; the US market is the largest in the world in this sector, by some way.

You’ll be highly empowered to invest budget and headspace in pretty much anything, as long as the investment is measurable, scalable and on-brand. We love to multiply budgets by 10x as soon as we have the confidence. We also love it when we learn really really quickly that things don't work, and that we’ll never waste time on it again.

It’s all about being focused on growth, getting sh*t done, testing as much as possible, scaling it, refining it, hiring a specialist to run it, building a team, moving on to the next thing, taking a moment to reflect, relax, and celebrate another month of 30% growth. And then back on it.

What’s more, as one of the first US-based employees, this is a rare opportunity to experience the feeling and freedom of an early stage start-up, but backed by the safety of an established team, serious investors and proven product-market fit.

          The role:

Part of the role is trying totally new stuff, and part is about executing the playbook from Europe, which includes all the things we know users love – the magic that takes them from customer to true revolutionary.

Incredible creativity and customer empathy is the name of the game. You’re the storyteller. You’ll get inside our customers’ heads, understand what makes that tick, and what makes them talk. You’ll turn that insight into an endless string of awesome campaigns. You’ll be constantly considering ‘how can I involve customers’, ‘how can I user social media, email, events, letters, even outdoor advertising to tell them our stories’.

You’ll measure your successes on the word-of mouth coefficient of the customer base, and will work with central teams, external agencies, and above all other US-based team members to make it happen.

          The toolkit will include:

          • Stunts. Big ones, that make our customers proud of us.
          • Awesome social media presence, with smart paid promotion.
          • Content marketing, making stuff go viral

          • Grass-roots community outreach and events.
          • Product-marketing campaigns that wow users and get them talking
          • Ambassador program

          Benefits:

          • Competitive salary and benefits package
          • Company stock options
          • All-expenses-paid company holidays in Europe

        • Marketing Manager (Customer Acquisition & Commercial) - US East

We are looking for an experienced, high-intellect and fundamentally entrepreneurial marketing professional, to be one of the very first employees in our NYC office. Working to grow the TransferWise revolution in the US, you’ll be highly empowered to invest budget and headspace in pretty much anything, as long as the investment is measurable, scalable and on-brand.

The role it pretty simple on the face of it – to grow the customer base. But, at lightening speed, with at least 30% top-of-funnel growth every month. Initially focusing on New York, the scope will quickly expand, geographically and in terms of customer segments; the US market is the largest in the world in this sector, by some way.

We love to multiply budgets by 10x as soon as we have the confidence in a marketing channel to do so. We also love it when we learn really really quickly that a channel doesn’t work, and that we’ll never waste time on it again.

You’ll be strongly focused on RoI, will understand the projected lifetime value of users, will have a very strong head for numbers and will naturally be guided by the unit economics of everything you do. But that’s obvious, right?

Roll-out the playbook from Europe, which includes all the things we know to have worked, and devise your own strategies to drive growth. That’s the summary! Execution at an incredibly high quality and speed is the name of the game. You’ll use all your experience to adjust and perfect our message for the US, and your creativity to question where things could be improved. You’ll be constantly considering the customer proposition and targeting, thinking about promotions & offers which could super-charge everything, and learning what messages really resonate and improve conversion rates.
