Transfers from Licensed States in the U.S.

Banking licenses are issued state by state in the USA. TransferWise is in the process of acquiring licenses on a state by state basis which will allow us to accept US Dollar deposits under our own license, rather than relying on a banking partner.

We currently have licenses issued to us in 45 states:
  • Alabama
  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Mississippi
  • Missouri
  • Montana
  • Nebraska
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • Washington DC
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin
  • Wyoming

If your profile address is in one of the above 45 states, your ACH Debit payment limit is $10,000 (and $15,000 after you've completed your first ACH transfer).

The bank details that we provide when your address is in a listed state will be different to the bank details that are shown to customers that have an address in a state where we are not currently licensed as TransferWise Inc.

You can also make payments up to $1,000,000 with no daily or yearly limits (as we currently have in states where we operate with our partner).

Business Customers with businesses in different states

If your personal profile address is in a licensed state, and your business address is in a non-licensed state (or vice-versa), then you will see different bank details for TransferWise depending on which profile you are creating a transfer from.

If, for any reason, you deposit money into the wrong account, then this will be rejected and sent back to you, and you’ll need to resend to the correct account.
