What is The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA)?

SEPA stands for Single Euro Payments Area, and is an agreement between countries within Europe which setsstandards for Euro to Euro transfers within this zone. It aims to make payments between European banks the equivalent of local bank transfers, making them very inexpensive.

For further information about SEPA, see here.

TransferWise has two Euro bank accounts, which we use to send and receive Euro deposits - one in Estonia and one in Germany.

EUR Refunds

If you cancel your transfer from EUR when you have already sent the money to us (using one of the payment methods listed), and the transfer has not yet been completed, then we can simply refund your money back to you. See what is required to complete the refund for your payment method below.

Bank Transfer

When refunding a bank transfer, the money must be sent back to the account it came from and we will ask for the following details:

- Account holder name
- Bank code (BIC/SWIFT)

Your money will then be sent back to you and should arrive within 2 working days maximum.

Debit/Credit Card

Card payment refunds are automatic (but not instant), and once you cancel a payment, your money will be sent back to the card you paid from. You can read about how long these take here.

If you have paid via SOFORT, your money must clear to our account before we can refund it to you. SOFORT payments take 1-2 working days to reach us. We can then refund it back directly to the account it came from.

Once sent, the money will arrive back to you within 1-2 working days.

If you cancel a EUR transfer which you have paid for using iDeal, we'll refund the money directly to the account it came from. It will arrive back in your account within 1-2 working days.

If you cancel a EUR transfer that you've paid for using Trustly instant bank payment, your money will be sent back to the account you paid from. It will arrive back within 1-2 working days and you will see Trustly as the sender on your account statement.
