An social security number (SSN) is a unique, nine-digit identification number assigned to every US Citizen, permanent resident and temporary, working resident.
When making a payment from US Dollars, you will be prompted to enter your SSN for identification purposes. This is a secure, one-time-only check. Once successfully verified, we will not ask for it again.
Once your SSN has been submitted, as with all other private data provided to us, it is securely handled according to data protection regulations. It's not accessible to us or anyone else in any capacity.
SSN check is required due to the way we are regulated in the United States. If your SSN is not being accepted, please see this page for more information.
If you don't have a SSN, please see this page.
- For security purposes, SSN verification is done automatically online through your TransferWise profile. Please do not email or upload a copy of your social security card as we are not able to use it verify your SSN.
- In some cases, we may require further documentation in addition to your SSN. If so, we will let you know by phone or email.
