Guaranteed Rate

Here you'll find all of the information about our guaranteed rate feature.

In order to receive the guaranteed rate, we must receive the money for your transfer within the period of time shown.

You can tell if you have a guaranteed rate when you enter the amount you want to send into the calculator. On the right hand side underneath the fee you will see either 'exchange rate guaranteed' or 'estimated exchange rate'. If you have 'exchange rate guaranteed' then this means you have a temporary guaranteed rate. If you have 'estimated exchange rate', this means that your payment will be converted with a floating rate, so we will use the mid-market rate at the time of conversion.

This guaranteed rate is applied to transfers:
  • from British Pounds (GBP) to all currencies excluding COP, RUB and TRY. This lasts for 24 hours. The time for your guaranteed rate is calculated in 'working hours'. This means from the time you finish creating your transfer, the rate will be guaranteed for 24 hours until the next working day. As an example - if you create a transfer at 09:00 on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, then your rate will be guaranteed until 09:00 on Monday
  • from US Dollars (USD)  to all currencies. This lasts until 16.00 EST the following working day.
  • from the following currencies (list below), to AUD, CHF, EUR, GBP and USD. This lasts for 48 hours (2 working days, excluding weekends and holidays). The time for your guaranteed rate is calculated in 'working hours'. This means from the time you finish creating your transfer, the rate will be guaranteed for 48 hours, ending on a working day. As an example - if you create a transfer at 16:00 on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, then your rate will be guaranteed until 16:00 on Tuesday.
    • Australian Dollars (AUD)
    • Bulgarian Lev (BGN)
    • Euros (EUR)
    • Japanese Yen (JPY)
    • New Zealand Dollars (NZD)
    • Romanian Leu (RON)
    • Singapore Dollars (SGD)
  • From BRL to USD for 72 hours. This means that as long as we receive the money for your transfer within 72 hours, you will get the exchange rate that was present at the time you set up the transfer. The 72 hours does not include weekends or holidays.
  • from all other currencies** (excluding BRL, CHF and CZK) when the payment is being made to AUD, CHF, GBP, EUR, or USD. This lasts for 24 hours (1 working day, excluding weekends and holidays).

Please note - Our guaranteed rate feature does not apply to an unlimited number of transfers on your profile. Transfers should not be set up if you don't intend to send any money with each one. We reserve the right to limit the number of guaranteed rate transfers on your profile if we notice misuse of this.

Additional note - When creating a guaranteed rate transfer, you are subject to a rate limit of 5%. This means that if, in the time between transfer creation and TransferWise completing your transfer, the rate drops by 5% or more, then your transfer may be delayed.

UK Guaranteed Rate

We offer an automatic guaranteed rate on all transfers from GBP to the other currencies we support (with the exception of COP, RUB and TRY). The rate becomes guaranteed at the moment you finish creating the transfer and remains guaranteed for 24 hours only until the next working day. As an example - if you create a transfer at 09:00 on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, then your rate will be guaranteed until 09:00 on Monday.

As long as your money reaches us during this period of time, your recipient will receive the amount you were shown at the time you completed transfer creation.

If your money does not reach us in this time, the rate will no longer be guaranteed. The rate used for your transfer will be the real rate at the time of conversion.

You will not be able to set a rate limit on any payment with a guaranteed rate.

EUR Guaranteed Rate

We offer an automatic guaranteed rate on all EUR transfers to AUD, CHF, GBP and USD. The rate becomes guaranteed at the moment you finish creating your transfer and remains guaranteed for 2 working days (48 hours), as some EUR bank transfers can take a little longer to reach us.

As long as your money reaches us during this period of time, your recipient will receive the amount you were shown at the time you completed transfer creation.

If your money does not reach us in this time, then the rate will no longer be guaranteed. The rate used for your transfer will be the rate at the time of conversion.

You will not be able to set a rate limit on any payment with a guaranteed rate.

US Guaranteed Rate

We offer an automatic guaranteed rate on all transfers from USD to every other currency we support. The rate becomes guaranteed at the moment you finish creating the transfer, and remains guaranteed until 16:00 EST (Eastern Standard) on the next business day. For direct debit transfers this rate remains guaranteed until 19.00 EST

As long as your money either reaches us during this period of time (in the case of wire transfers), or if you create a successful ACH payment in this time, your recipient will receive the amount you were shown at the time you completed transfer creation.

If your wire payment does not reach us in this time, or you are unable to create a successful ACH, the rate will no longer be guaranteed. The rate used for your transfer will be the real mid-market rate at the time of conversion.

We also offer Amount Lock Transfers from the U.S., but these are entirely dependent upon the guaranteed rate (unlike our other currencies). So, to ensure your recipient receives the amount you specify, you will need to send your money (or create a successful ACH debit payment) before 16:00 EST the next business day.

JPY Guaranteed Rate

Once your address has been verified by snail mail in Japan, your transfers from JPY will get a guaranteed rate when you are sending to AUD, CHF, GBP, EUR, or USD. This applies as long as your money arrives to us within 48 hours (2 working days, excluding weekends and holidays).

You can read more about verification for transfers from Japan here.
