Making a bank transfer in GBP

This article will cover how to make a bank transfer from each different UK bank. You can skip to your relevant bank below.

Please note - You don't need to have internet banking to use TransferWise. You can also make bank transfers to us using phone banking or by physically making the transfer to us in your branch.

Barclays


To make a bank transfer to TransferWise with Barclays online banking please follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Once you're logged in, there are two ways to make a payment. You can either click the 'Account services' drop-down menu and select 'Make a payment', 



or you can click 'Pay and transfer' from the top menu and select 'Make a payment'



Step 2 - This should then bring up a pop-up window where you can select the amount, the account you wish to pay from, and then under 'To' you can select 'Someone new'.



Below this, you can then enter all the details for TransferWise including your reference number (beginning with P) in the 'Reference' section.



Step 3 - You can then choose 'Now' below 'Make Payment' and then click 'Next'

 

Halifax


To make a bank transfer to TransferWise with Halifax online banking please follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Once you're logged in, on the right of the main screen select 'Make a payment'



Step 2 - You're then taken to the payment setup screen where you can select 'Set up a new recipient'



Step 3 - On the next screen you can select 'Pay a bill', and towards the bottom of the page, select 'Enter company details manually'




Step 4 - You can then enter all the relevant details for TransferWise, including your reference number (beginning with P), and then click 'Continue'.



Step 5 - You'll then be taken to the payment confirmation screen, and will need to enter a security code to complete the payment, either via telephone, or the Halifax banking app. You can select your choice and once this is done, your payment will be on it's way.

 

HSBC


To make a bank transfer to TransferWise with HSBC online banking please follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Once you're logged in, from the options next to the account you wish to send from, you can select 'Payments'.



Step 2 - Under 'Create a new payment:', you'll need to select 'Pay family, friends and other accounts'.



Step 3 - You can then enter all the details for TransferWise along with the amount and confirm your payment using your HSBC Secure Key.


 

 

Lloyds


To make a bank transfer to TransferWise with Lloyds online banking please follow the steps below.

Step 1
Once you're logged in, choose the bank account you wish to make the transfer from and select 'Make a payment'.

Step 2This should then take you to the payment setup screen, where you can select 'Set Up a New Recipient'



Step 3 - You can then select the 'Pay a Person' tab, and enter all details for TransferWise, including the amount you wish to send, the date you wish this to be sent (you can select 'As soon as possible') and your reference number beginning with a P in the 'Reference' section. Once this is done you can hit continue.



Step 4 - You'll then be taken to the confirmation screen, where you can check that everything is correct and then enter your password to confirm the transfer. If you are making a first time bank transfer to us, then you may also need to go through Lloyds Telephone Authorisation procedure, so you will need to have your registered phone nearby.

 

Nationwide


To make a bank transfer to TransferWise with Nationwide online banking please follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Once you're logged in, hover your mouse over 'Move money & manage payments' and then in the drop-down 'Make a single payment from', and then select the account you wish to transfer from.



Step 2 - In the next screen, 'Who would you like to pay?', select 'A new person or organisation'. 



Step 3 - You'll then be taken to the payment set up and will need to select 'or add details youself.' instead of 'Look up organisation'. You can then enter the details for TransferWise, and please remember to enter your reference number (beginning with P) in the 'Description' section.



Step 4 - In the next step, 'How much would you like to pay?', simply enter the amount you need to send to TransferWise and 'Today'.



Step 5 - You can then 'Check and confirm payment details' and once you've made sure everything you've entered is correct you can hit 'Confirm'.

 

 

NatWest


To make a bank transfer to TransferWise with NatWest online banking, please follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Once you're logged in, select 'Payments and transfers' from the menu on the right side of the page



Step 2 - In the next screen, 'Payments and transfers', Select 'Make a payment or transfer' from the left hand menu (also called 'Make a payment or transfer')



Step 3 - You'll then be taken to the payment set-up screen and can select from which of your accounts you wish to transfer. You can click 'Pay someone new' and enter the details for TransferWise, including your reference number (beginning with P).

Towards the bottom of the form you can then enter the amount you wish to send to TransferWise along with the date you wish to do this (this can simply be set to the same day you set-up the transfer with us). Once all this is entered you can click 'Next'.



Step 4 - You're then able to check all the details of your transfer and once you've confirmed everything is correct you can hit 'Confirm'
 

 

Royal Bank of Scotland

To make a bank transfer to TransferWise with Royal Bank of Scotland online banking, please follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Once you've logged in, you can select 'Payments and transfers' from the menu on the left hand side of the page.

Step 2 - This will open a new page, where you can select 'Make a payment or transfer'.



Step 3 - You can then choose to pay an existing payee, or pay someone new. You can select 'Pay someone new'.



Step 4 - In the pop window that appears, you can enter all the details for TransferWise, including your reference number (beginning with a P), and click 'Add Payee'.



Step 5 - Once this is done, you'll be taken back to the 'Make a payment or transfer' page. You can now select the account you wish to send from, enter the amount you wish to send, and the date you wish to send it. You can then hit 'Next'.



Step 6 - You'll then be given a summary of all the details you've entered, so that you can ensure there are no discrepancies. After this you can confirm your transfer.



Step 7 - To confirm your transfer, you'll need your RBS card reader. Simply select the account you're sending from in the drop-down menu, and then insert the corresponding card into the reader. You can then follow the on-screen instructions and finally, hit 'Confirm' You'll then see a summary of your transfer and the money will be on it's way to us.

 

Santander


Before making a transfer with Santander, please make sure you have your mobile phone with you, as you'll need this to complete the transfer. You can then follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Once you've logged in (and this can take a moment as Santander have a few security steps) you can select 'Payments & Transfers' from the menu at the top of the page.



Step 2 - You'll then be taken to your main payments page and can select 'Set up a new payment' from the column on the left.



Step 3 - You are then given four options for creating a new payment and you'll want to choose 'Pay a new bill'



Step 4 - You can then enter all the relevant details for the transfer on the next page, including your reference number (beginning with P) in the 'Payment reference' section.



Towards the bottom of the page you can enter the amount you with to send and select 'Now' under 'Take from my account'. You can then hit 'Continue'



Step 5 - Once you hit continue, you'll be sent an OTP (one time password) to your mobile phone by text and will need to input this to complete your transfer. Once this is done, everything is complete and your money should be with us within minutes.
 

 

TSB


To make a bank transfer to TransferWise with TSB online banking, please follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Once you're logged in, from the main account page you'll need to click, 'Make a payment'



Step 2 - You're then taken to the 'Pay an Account' page, where you can select 'Set up a new recipient'



Step 3 - You're then taken to the payment page, where below 'Pay a person' you can then add TransferWise as a new recipient, and also enter all details for the transfer, including your reference number (beginning with P) in the 'Reference' section.



Step 4 - Once all the details are entered, you can hit next and you'll be taken to the final confirmation screen. As long as all the details are correct here, you can enter your password and hit confirm to complete the payment.
