What Are SWIFT Payments?

SWIFT payments are a type of international transfer sent via the SWIFT international payment network.

The SWIFT international payment network is one of the largest financial messaging systems in the world. TransferWise can send or receive certain currencies via SWIFT payment.

We pay out ZAR via SWIFT, which you can read about here. And USD can be sent to TransferWise's currency accounts in Europe via SWIFT international transfer.

TransferWise can receive USD from many countries in the world via SWIFT payment.

Here's what you need to know about SWIFT payments:

  • Your bank will likely charge a fee to make a SWIFT transfer to TransferWise.
  • Make sure to inform your sending bank that although our account is in Europe, there’s no conversion necessary.
  • When the money is in transit, correspondent banks in between may deduct a handling fee.
  • We cannot deliver Amount Lock Transfers to your recipient.

Transfer times

SWIFT payments usually take 1-3 working days to reach their destination, however it is possible that they can take longer due to circumstances such as time differences between the sending and receiving country.
