We know that a lot of students in Brazil use TransferWise. And although you can't send business payments to or from BRL (Brazilian Reals), we've made it possible for educational purposes!
You can send payments from BRL to universities, schools, or similar institutions that provide educational services. But you can’t send to intermediary institutions; such as tourism, student exchange agencies, and volunteering exchange programs.
You can only pay for educational transfers with a bank transfer (TED). You can check our guide to BRL transfers for more information.
When sending an educational transfer from BRL, you can send money to universities and schools for the following reasons:
If your reason isn't listed above, we can still accept it as long as the service is provided by a university or school that is linked to education.
We can’t accept payments for online courses or intermediary institutions; such as tourism, student exchange agencies, and volunteering exchange programs.
We’ll ask for the invoice for your payment each time you send from BRL to an educational institution. It can take our team 2–3 working days to review your invoice.
Your invoice must show:
Do I have to send the entire amount invoiced in one payment?
You can pay for your invoice in several separate, smaller amounts using TransferWise. Just upload the same invoice each time you make a transfer. The amount you send can't add up to more than the amount on the invoice.
Can my family member pay for my invoice?
Your family member can pay for your invoice if they have their own TransferWise account. When our verification team reviews the invoice, they’ll ask for proof that you’re related. They can upload one of the following:
Your family member can’t pay for your invoice if they don’t have their own TransferWise account. Whoever sets up the transfer on TransferWise must pay their bank transfer (TED) from a bank account in their own name.
The sender will always show up as TransferWise in the recipients bank account.
When setting up your transfer, you can make sure your recipient knows what the transfer is for by putting any identifying information in the reference field (like the invoice number, or student name).
If you need a proof of payment for your recipient, you can download a PDF receipt of the transfer once it’s completed.
