Europeans have a €30 billion problem
From holidaymakers, students funding their student loans, people sending money to support loved ones back home, to small businesses working with overseas...
Lebanon is struggling with the aftermath of a devastating explosion that has killed over 200 people, injured 6,000 and made 300,000 people homeless.
So we're waiving our fees on up to £1,000 (or equivalent) in donations to organizations helping Lebanon, starting with Arc en Ciel, Offre Joie, and Nusaned. (We're working to add more organizations to our system. See how to donate below.)
This will go on until mid September at least.
On 4th August, Beirut was rocked by a devastating blast caused by the explosion of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stocked in the country's principal port. The damages the country has sustained have been estimated to be around $10-15 billion: entire buildings have collapsed, four of the city's hospitals are now out of use, and the port, on which Lebanon relies to import up to 85% of its food, has been damaged beyond repair.
This has come as the country is battling its worst financial crisis and the coronavirus pandemic, both of which pushed tens of thousands of people into poverty.
Customers around the world have been asking Wise how they can donate in USD to the disaster relief efforts.
So we've made transfers to selected organizations supporting the relief efforts fee-free for the next month, at least. You don't have to be in Lebanon to donate.
If you want to send more than £1,000, that's great. Just make sure you set up a new transfer each time. Because we can't waive any fees if an amount over £1,000 is entered.
