The coronavirus is our fight. All of us. The whole world. This is no time to let borders get in the way of us working together.
So we’re waiving our fees on up to $20,000,000 in donations to organizations fighting the virus, starting with Gavi, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation. (We’re working to add more organizations to our system. See how to donate below.)
Right now, when many people around the world give to Gavi, their donation gets watered down. Because if Gavi doesn’t have an account in their home currency, and their money has to be converted, some of it is inevitably lost to bad exchange rates, high fees, or both.
Since we’re now waiving our fees, and we always use the real exchange rate, your donation to Gavi will remain intact. Gavi will end up with more money to fight the virus.
This is money that’s badly needed. You might think that since the whole world is dealing with the pandemic, there’s plenty of funding in hand for a vaccine. But unfortunately that’s not so. The World Health Organization estimates that organizations around the world probably need a great deal more funding to develop and then distribute a vaccine to all who’ll need it.
Every donation counts.
Since it was founded in 2000, Gavi has been at the forefront of fighting epidemics in the world, and they’ve helped to vaccinate hundreds of millions of disadvantaged children worldwide.
Gavi has formed a special alliance to deal with the current pandemic, called the Gavi Advance Market Commitment for COVID-19 Vaccines. It will bring together countries, businesses, and organizations to find a vaccine as a team, rather than wait for a single group to win the vaccine race. The alliance will then help grow the supply of the vaccine, and make sure it’s allocated smartly and is available in lower-income countries.
We think that all sounds pretty great.
How to make a fee-free donation:
Set up a normal transfer to euros (EUR), using the TransferWise bank details we’ve created for Gavi below. Please use these details rather than sending money directly to Gavi. This is the only way we can waive our fees and guarantee you the real exchange rate.
When you get to the payment step, you’ll see our fees have been waived.
That’s it. Except just one more thing we’d like to say.
Use these bank details to donate to the EUR account set up for Gavi👇
