Let's answer some of your questions
What is a multi-currency account and how does it work?
A TransferWise multi-currency account lets you keep money in more than 50 currencies, and convert between them at the real exchange rate whenever you need. It’s free to sign up and there aren’t any subscription fees.
You can also get bank details for GBP, EUR, AUD, NZD, USD, HUF, RON*, and SGD (with more currencies on the way). Share these details with your friends, companies or customers to receive money from around the world.
You can send money from your account to a bank account whenever you like. We'll charge a fixed fee when you do this, and a conversion fee when you send to a different currency.
Or, spend the currencies in your account around the world with the TransferWise debit Mastercard. Get low conversion fees, and zero transaction fees. Find out if the TransferWise debit card is available in your country.
How is the multi-currency account different than a bank account?
Your TransferWise multi-currency account is an electronic money account. It's different from a bank account because:
- you won’t be able to get an overdraft or loan
- you won’t earn interest on your account
- although your bank details are unique, they don't represent real bank accounts, but simply "addresses" for your electronic money account. You can still use them to receive payments though, like a real bank account
- your money is protected and safeguarded, but not guaranteed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) that you may get with a bank account
Can you have multiple currencies in a TransferWise account?
You can add money to your account in 19 currencies: AUD, BGN, CAD, CHF, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, HRK, HUF, JPY, NOK, NZD, PLN, RON, SEK, SGD, TRY and USD. And while you can't keep BRL in your account, you can add other currencies and pay for them with BRL.
You can keep 50+ currencies in your account. You can convert money between any of these currencies in your account, always with the real exchange rate.
What is a multi-currency card?
The TransferWise card lets you spend money around the world with low conversion fees and zero transaction fees. It’s currently available for multi-currency account-holder residents in the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland and EEA.
