What your Wise Jar says about you

Anna Allgaier

The thought of saving money is jarring, but I promise Wise Jars are not. That’s the first bad pun of the article out of the way. If you’re lucky I’ll make it the last.

We like to do things differently at Wise, and by differently I mean easier, upfront, honest, global, affordable and accessible. So when we took a look at traditional savings accounts we saw that much like my ex, they come with a lot of baggage:

Not always being able to access your money when you want
Minimum balance requirements
No way to divide your savings up
Commitment issues, emotional unavailability, cheap
Sorry I got my lists muddled

And that’s where my brainy colleagues came up with Wise Jars. Which is basically a piggy bank for adults. Well, multiple piggy banks all in one place.

Wise Jars sit in your account and you can open as many of them up as you want for your savings. Divide them up into different categories…travel money, bills, emergency savings, shopping splurge supplies, etc. etc. You can access your money whenever you want, there’s no way you can accidentally spend it on your debit card or through a direct debit without you moving the money to your account and there’s no interest to be paid. (We do offer Wise Interest in the UK, with seriously lovely rates if you’re looking to make a bit of money by doing nothing at all, but that’s for another day.) If you aren't based in the UK and want to find out more on our regional Terms of Use, please take your fabulous self to this link.

When you decide to go Jar crazy, you pick the currency you want to save in, give it a name, maybe even a cheeky emoji, and transfer over your money from your account. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

To my Boss’s despair, I wrote an article on what your horoscope says about your spending habits. It was accurate, insightful and life changing for all who stumbled upon it. Which is why I have decided to help you further on your “who am I?” journey. This is what your Wise Jar name says about you.

Savings? Save me from this article

Run the world 🌎

You’re ready to own the world like Beyoncé does. Just not on a private jet. Travelling is on your agenda. You’re all bold, vivacious and all about experiences and ready to put the Dora in Explorer.

Just in case ⚠️

You are known to catastrophise from time to time and often play out “what if '' scenarios in your head that keep you up until 3am. On the flip side, being scared means you’re always prepared. You’re the friend to call in a crisis, and you bet your bottom dollar your pantry was full to the brim during COVID.

Bills bills bills 💤

You’re a smart cookie. Accidentally spending money in your account that was meant for rent, a deposit, a water bill, insurance? No chance. You overcome disdain for the mundane with whatever life throws your way. Admin guru extraordinaire.

Nom nom, glug glug 🍔🍷

Life’s short and you’re there to enjoy it. In German the word Genussmensch is someone who’s a hedonist, a lover of life, and likes nothing more than embracing it through a good meal, a glass of wine, and stimulating company. But even a hedonist needs savings. So here you are.

Presents 🎁

You know who’s the real gift? You. You’re thoughtful, and like to show the people in your life how special they are to you. Either that, or you mess up a lot and have a lot of “sorry” presents to buy your partner. But let’s go with the former rather than the latter. Christmas, Diwali, Valentine’s Day, Birthdays, Weddings. You’ve got it covered.

Looking to the future ❤️

You have big dreams, and you do what you have to do to make them happen. You may be preparing for some family fun, a relocation, or just wanting to keep things comfortable in the upcoming years. But no pressure. There’ll be no selling all of your belongings and joining a commune on this saver’s agenda.

Self care 💅

You don’t zone out when the flight attendant tells you to put your mask on first before anybody else's. The importance of looking after number one is clear as day to you. You always look fresh, well-dressed and de-stressed.
